Late 2019 Books with Trans and/or Non-Binary Authors

Here are some books by trans and/or non-binary authors with release dates from July 2019-December 2019. Here is my list of books by trans and/or non-binary authors with release dates from the first half of the year.

It is not my intent to out anyone. If I have listed identities in error that you would like me to change, or you would like to be removed from this list, please let me know.

  • The Black Veins by Aisha Monet (July 17) YA centering a magical road trip queer found family adventure! (non-binary author)
  • Uncomfortable Labels: My Life As a Gay Autistic Trans Woman by Laura Kate Dale (July 18) As a queer autistic non-binary person, I treasure books about autistic trans folks. Looking forward to this. (trans woman author)
  • Dithered Hearts by Chace Verity (July 24) Enby/f/f fantasy romance Cinderella retelling, yes please. (enby author)
  • Rising from Ash by Jax Meyer (July 26) An f/f romance set at the South Pole, with an ace MC; looking forward to reading this one! (non-binary author)
  • The Ascent to Godhood by JY Yang (July 30) This is the fourth volume in the amazing Tensorate series. (non-binary author)

August Releases

  • Forgotten Monster by J Emery (Aug 7) Fantasy hate to love m/m monster romance by one of my favorite romance authors. (enby author)
  • Oliver a Lover All Over by Maranda Elizabeth (Aug 15) A psychogeographical exploration of intimacy and betrayal, repetition compulsion, open relationships, empathy, therapy, and art. (agender author)

September Releases

  • It’s Okay to Be Where You Are At by Nicole Field/boi nik (Sept 1) A short collection of essays about ending D/s relationships. (multigender author)
  • Lord of the Last Heartbeat by May Peterson (Sept 2) I have been anticipating this book for at least a year. This debut queer high fantasy romance with a non-binary MC looks wonderful. I hear that it contains: a smol magical opera singer, a snarky immortal bear shifter, a deadly curse, and tons of romantic tension! (transfem author)
  • Stage Dreams by Melanie Gilman (Sept 3) A comic western centering a Latinx queer woman and a trans woman, by a non-binary comic artist, yes please! (non-binary artist)
  • Advantages of Being Evergreen by Oliver Baez Bendorf (Sept 10) This collection of poetry looks wonderful.  (trans man poet)
  • Pet by Akwaeke Emezi (Sept 10) This YA grapples with the question: how do you save the world from monsters if nobody will admit that they exist? It sounds completely wonderful and I’ve heard such good things. (non-binary author)
  • By Dark by T. Thorn Coyle (Sept 14) This is the 8th book in a paranormal urban fantasy series about queer witches. (non-binary author)
  • It’s a Whole Spiel: Love, Latkes, and Other Jewish Stories ed by Katherine Locke (Sept 17) A collection of short stories about Jewish teens, with an awesome line-up of authors. So excited for this. (non-binary editor)
  • Stage Presents by Aidan Wayne (Sep 28)  Roommates to lovers f/f with a trans lead, by a non-binary author whose work I’ve adored, set at the Disney College program? I gotta give this a try. (non-binary author)
  • Goalie Interference by Avon Gale & Piper Vaughn (Sept 30) I have been anticipating book 2 in this m/m hockey romance series for a long time, and I am so excited to read it! (Vaughn is a non-binary author.)
  • A Perfect Time by Lina Langley (Sept 30) A time traveliong hit man MC, yes please. (non-binary author)

October Releases

  • Holding Onto Day by EH Timms (Oct 1) Snowed in fantasy story centering a vampire and a werewolf who are aroace and aromantic allosexual. Yes please, especially with the trans, non-binary and disability representation. Also I love the cover! (genderqueer author)
  • The Trans Space Octopus Congregation by Bogi Takács (Oct 5) The debut short story collection by one of my favorite SFF authors! (agender author)
  • Happier as a Woman: Transforming Friendships, Transforming Lives by Martina Giselle Ramirez and Alicia Partnoy (Oct 8) I love that this is a trans memoir that focuses on friendship. (Ramirez is a trans woman author.)
  • By Any Means Necessary by Candice Montgomery (Oct 8) I loved this author’s debut and this YA centering a queer boy trying to juggle college, a romance, and saving his uncle’s bee farm sounds wonderful. (non-binary author)
  • I Promise by Catherine Hernandez, illustrated by Syrus Marcus Ware (Oct 15) This children’s book centers queer families. (Ware is a trans man illustrator)
  • Homesick by Nino Cipri (Oct 15) Speculative fiction stories that foreground queer relationships and transgender or nonbinary characters that center home as theme, yes please. (trans/non-binary author)
  • Criminal Intentions: The Golden Ratio by Cole McCade (Oct 20) I love this series to pieces and am so glad for the beginning of season 2! (trans man author)
  • Trans Power: Own Your Own Gender ed by Juno Roche (Oct 21) This book of interviews looks really compelling. (trans woman author)
  • Beyond the Black Door by A.M. Strickland (Oct 29) Dark fantasy featuring court intrigue and romance and an MC coming to terms with her asexuality. (genderfluid author)

November Releases

  • The Gospel According to X by Oliver Baez Bendorf (Nov 2) This poetry chapbook is by one of my favorite poets. (trans man poet)
  • The Deep by Rivers Solomon (Nov 5) A standalone fantasy novella about an ocean dwelling species descended from enslaved people, inspired by a song by Daveed Diggs. This book looks amazing. (non-binary author)
  • Criminal Intentions: In Sequence by Cole McCade (Nov 10) I love this police procedural m/m romance so much, and the second season is just getting started! (trans man author)
  • Queen of the Conquered by Kacen Callender (Nov 12) An ambitious young woman with the power to control minds seeks vengeance against the royals who murdered her family, in a Caribbean-inspired fantasy world embattled by colonial oppression. (demiboy author)
  • Transpire Together by Mercy Zephyr (Nov 14) A second chance m/f romance with a trans man lead set in 2018 Alaska during the Anchorage bathroom bill fight. (trans woman author)
  • Rebent Sinner by Ivan Coyote (Nov 19) I love Coyote’s writing so much, and this collection of stories sounds especially wonderful. (non-binary trans author)
  • A Boyfriend for Christmas by Jay Northcote (Nov 26) Closeted virgin meets tattooed biker and takes him home for Christmas. (trans man author)

December Releases

  • Dawnfall by RoAnna Sylver (Dec 2) An interactive, dimension-hopping portal fantasy romance, where you can play as male, female, nonbinary, or agender; gay, straight, bisexual, asexual, or aromantic, monogamous or polyamorous. So excited for this! (non-binary author)
  • Best Lesbian Erotica of the Year Vol 4 ed by Sinclair Sexsmith (Dec 10) This collection promises to be awesome, based on the table of contents. I may be biased, though, as I have a story in this one. (non-binary editor)
  • Dispatch: Poems by Cameron Awkward-Rich (Dec 10) I love Rich’s poetry so much, and I’m really looking forward to this collection. (trans man author)
  • Criminal Intentions: Cold Calculation by Cole McCade (Dec 11) As always, I’m eagerly awaiting the installments in this police procedural serial m/m romance. I adore these characters so much. (trans man author)
  • Frostbite by J Emery (Dec 13) A vampire snowed in Christmas m/m romance by one of my favorite romance authors! Yes please.
  • Eight Kinky Nights by Xan West (me!) (Dec 16) An angsty foodie contemporary kinky polyamorous f/f Chanukah romance with two autistic MCs. (genderqueer trans butch author)
